For those interested: the President gave the Pope the stole from the vestments that at one time coverd the remains of St. John Neumann, a Redemptorist priest, a bishop of Philadelphia, and the first American male to be canonized. (Those vestments were replaced a few years ago with ones that were more appropriate to the time period in which the saint lived.)
