"In truth, though, Obama's pragmatic approach to divisive policy (his notion that we should acknowledge the good faith underlying opposing viewpoints) and his social-justice agenda reflect the views of American Catholic laity much more closely than those vocal bishops and pro-life activists. I fear for the future of the U.S. It's not something I just realized when I read this article, but the article certainly does justify the fear I feel.
Perhaps we need to explain to Newsweek that we are Roman Catholics who happen to live in America--not American Catholics. If the American Catholic church exists, I am sure it does not follow the Magesterium
Kudos to Fr Mitch Pacwa SJ who took on this silly article on EWTN last Tuesday night.
The best thing to come out of the Obama Administration is the fact that, by placing all these "Catholics" in positions of authority, he has exposed the huge rift in Catholicism in the USA of which the Kennedys are the icon.
Its painful to look at ourselves in the mirror but it has to be done. We are quickly being forced to choose between the our Church & our President. If the November election is any barometer, the Church looses.
